Why is a Private Reserve so important?

The Private Natural Reserves are an alternative to enrich the Guatemalan System of Protected Areas (SIGAP for its initials in Spanish), since many of them are on lands that are not represented in the system. By this means, they add more hectares and protection to the life zones of the country. Therefore, they become an important part of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor.

When constituting this concept as another option of management, they diverge of the concept of Agriculture as a sole source of income for owners of forests, being them individuals, legal, municipal property or nongovernmental organizations.  Its administration is guaranteed by a management plan approved by the Council of National Protected Areas (CONAP for its initials in Spanish).  With this, not only we guarantee the suitable management of the soil but also we give special attention to the hydric resources and to the existing biodiversity of our forests.  Also, when acquiring representation, it becomes a social entity capable of suggesting and influence in the decisions made by the different sectors of the country.

The Natural Private Reserves are one more contribution of the private sector in order to collaborate, improving the quality of life of the Guatemalan society and the Central American Region.
