Somos una organización no gubernamental, sin fines de lucro, no religiosa y apolítica, cuyo principal objetivo es contribuir a conservación de los recursos naturales mediante su adecuado manejo y bajo el concepto de desarrollo sostenible. 
About Us?
The Natural Private Reserve
Association of Guatemala (NPRA) was founded in 1998 by 6 private
reserves. Since then, the organization has promoted the establishment of
up to 57 new private reserves, becoming one of the largest groups in
Central America.
It actually covers the
following departments and communities in Guatemala: Petén, Izabal, Alta
y Baja Verapaz, Quiché, Progreso, Guatemala, Santa Rosa, Chimaltenango,
Sacatepéquez, Sololá, Suchitepequez, Retalhuleu and San Marcos.
Its main target group
includes the 22,000 reserves in the country, which have been identified
as potential reserves according to the Guatemalan government. The NPRA
is in the process of contacting and locating the existing reserves in
order to invite them to be part of the effort.
The organization’s main
goal is the conservation and sustainable management of the biodiversity
in private reserves in Guatemala. The vision of the members is to be
the leader institution that will independently and with a decentralized
operation become the main diverse ecosystems in private reserves in the
region.
Other objectives for the
organization include the promotion of the conservation of priority
privately owned areas, the promotion of useful services to its members
related to the conservation and adequate use of natural resource and to
support activities in education and public communication of topics
related to the environment in different social groups, institutions,
private sector and communities in Guatemala.
It has established
strategic alliances with other key organizations related to the
environment and agriculture in Guatemala and regionally such as: Anacafé
(Guatemala Coffee Growers Association), The Nature Conservancy (Proarca
and Endangered Parks), Conservation International , the Nature Defense
Foundation in Guatemala, the Natural Resources and Environment
Conservation Foundation in Guatemala, the National Environment
Protection Institute, the National Council for Protected Areas and the
Mesoamerican Biological Corridor among others.
NPRA has also jointly
worked on projects with international organizations such as: the US
Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund, International
Union for Nature Conservation and the International Development Agency
in the US (USAID).
The organization has
participated and organized a number of national and international events
that favor the environment protection and conservation.
The organization’s main
projects are being designed mainly to influence local and global
legislation via the participation and formation of natural reserves for
the biodiversity conservation in Guatemala, to improve the actual
organizational structure to provide the products and services the
project’s target market requires, to form a national and international
network of organizations and individuals interested in the environment
issues using e-communities and to develop new projects according
to the organizations strategic business plan.
